Recently I heard a radio broadcast about above ground
gardening. I went to the website to learn
more about it and found out that the man who started this phenomenon twenty
years ago gives classes on Saturday. He teaches what a person will need to get
started, he tells the students what, when and how to plant their gardens and he
even sells all the necessary ingredients except the concrete blocks to get a
garden started. His big selling point is that there is no weeding and no plowing
to this garden. One thing I really like is that I don’t have to bend over to
pick the vegetables. Since he has come up with a way to cover the entire
growing section with plastic, this garden can grow all year long.
The reason Len Pense got started doing this type of
gardening was that he had information that America’s enemies were trying to
target our electrical system. If that should ever happen, many people in the
cities would die of starvation because trucks could not get food from California
into the cities. He decided he needed to come up with a way to provide food for
his family that would not require any electricity. All of his surplus food is
preserved through the canning process.
The above picture shows Len on an extension ladder picking
Kentucky Wonder green beans from a plant in one of his gardens. He grows his
plants in not dirt or soil but a growing medium that he has formulated. He also
uses fertilizer and a spray to keep bugs away from the plants.
I am scheduled to take one of his classes in the next few
weeks and can hardly wait to start my own above ground garden.
